HOW’s design competition (launched in 1988), this is the only awards program to specifically recognize outstanding promotional work—whether it’s a self-promo to showcase a design firm’s capabilities, a project that touts a client’s goods or services, an announcement for a major life event or a student résumé or portfolio. HOW’s Promotion Design Awards celebrates design work that’s engaging, memorable and effective at moving the viewer toward action.
Snappy Tables provide a simple solution to compact living spaces. Founder Dean Robinson crafts each petite table from bamboo, plastic or or maple Europly, adding a convenient handle to the lightweight frame for a portable, easy-to-pack piece of furniture. The handle also serves as the starting point for unfolding the which easily swings open and rests on its legs.

Aalto’s intriguing and most famous chair, the 41 Paimio armchair can be found in numerous museums including the Museum of Modern Art. The laminated birch frame is bent into a unique closed curve supported by solid birch cross-rails. The seat is molded from one piece of birch plywood and is offered in two high-shine laminate colors. The idea of fixing plywood onto a closed frame was Aalto’s 1931 brainstorm for making a wooden chair “soft” and as a result this wooden chair has a springy quality.

Ripietra tiles look like natural stone, but are completely made of recycled material. The composite material is produced by extrusion and moulding, consisting of 55% polyethylene derived from urban waste and 45% of wood derived from industrial processing waste. The material is sturdy and weather resistant: it does not deform under the sun and does not freeze, for instance. Furthermore, the material is resistant to chemical agents and does not require maintenance. The tiles are anti slip.
