Taking in a period which spans the 1948 austerity Olympics to next year’s 2012 London Olympic games, British graphic design,  furniture, architecture, industrial products, fine art, ceramics  and fashion stand to be included.

The museum will display 350 works – 250 from its own collection and a further 100 borrowed items – telling the story through three thematic galleries. 

Exhibition curator Ghislaine Wood has worked with co-curator Christopher Breward to bring the exhibition together over two-and-a-half years.

Four days of deep immersion into Colombia’s art scene in August last year left uber-curator Hans Ulrich Obrist enthralled by the ‘very special’ convergence of art and architecture taking place in the gateway to South America. Ever since Obrist’s first visit to this neglected corner of the world’s most colourful continent, Colombia’s principal galleries have been busier than ever trying to cater to demand from the Swiss curator’s friends in very high places.
The country’s most important annual art fair ArtBo, held in the Colombian capital Bogotá has morphed from a ‘you must be kidding’ to a must-do event for the globe trotting curators of some of the world’s most prestigious art collections. What used to be a cold, corporate affair in Bogotá’s principal convention centre, Corferias, has branched out in its seventh year to incorporate almost every aspect of the city’s flourishing art scene.

Step into a world of lace like you’ve never seen before. See how the patterns, materials and cultural traditions of lace are represented through radical new approaches by UK and international artists.

Featuring large-scale, theatrical and visually spectacular work, this exhibition challenges perceptions of what lace can be, involving the visitor in an environment where spaces become fluid and thread creates entirely new boundaries. Many of the international artists are showing in the UK for the first time and artworks will be breaking out beyond the bounds of the gallery, into public spaces.

Lost in Lace will see 20 leading international artists take over the Gas Hall at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery from 29 October 2011 to 19 February 2012. The exhibition is produced in partnership between Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and the Crafts Council, in association with the University for the Creative Arts.

Kenneth Grange is Britain’s leading product designer, his prolific career spans over 50 years and he is responsible for designing some of the most iconic and familiar products and appliances that shape our daily lives. Kodak cameras, the silhouette for the Intercity 125 train, Kenwood food mixers, Parker pens, and the re-design of the London black cab are just some of his well-known designs.

In 1972 Grange, together with Alan Fletcher, Theo Crosby, Colin Forbes and Mervyn Kurlansky established Pentagram, a world renowned multi-disciplinary design consultancy. More recently, in the 1990s, Grange has produced distinctive designs that have become part of our landscape, from the Adshel bus shelter in 1993 to the Rural Post box for Royal Mail in 1998. Today Grange continues to work with British companies including Anglepoise, furniture designer Hitch Mylius and fashion designer Margaret Howell.

This exhibition is Kenneth Grange’s first UK retrospective celebrating his work, design journey and the role he has played in making Britain modern. With unique access to the Grange archive, the exhibition includes over 150 products, prototypes, sketches as well as audio, photography and film.
